Walk/Bike to Week coming up!

Poly Drive will celebrate International Walk to School Week with our Annual Walk (and Bike) to School-A-Thon and Walking School Bus! For those who are new to the concept, a walking school bus is a group of students walking to school as a group, under the watch of adults/parents and older students. Younger students are encouraged to “board” the bus at any point along its route to school.

The Poly Drive Walking School Bus will operate in the morning only, Monday, Oct.  6 through Friday, Oct. 10, beginning at the northwest corner of Poly & Hoover at approximately 7:55am. The route will proceed toward campus on the north side of Poly Drive.  Parents who would like to start their own walking school bus on a different route are encouraged to do so. Please contact Jenny or Lyndsay at jenniferwalker@bresnan.net for information and support equipment.

We will have bicycle helmets available Friday, Oct. 3, at both dismissal times.  Tori Koch will be there to fit any kids in need.

Just like last year, students will also be encouraged to collect pledges from friends and family for each trip or mile they complete during the week. Great prizes and gift cards to sporting goods stores will be awarded to top participants. Classes will also compete with each other for bonus recess periods! Funds raised will support Walk and Bike to School activities all year long.

Log sheets will be sent home the week before the event begins.

Great Northern Book Co. Book Fair, Sept. 11

Join the Poly Drive Family for the Great Northern Book Co. Book Fair next Thursday, Sept. 11, from 2:20 to 7 p.m. in the Poly Drive library.

Ron and Barb Scherry, owners of Great Northern Book Co., a Montana business, will be providing the upcoming book fair for Poly Drive. The Scherrys were well-known educators in Montana before retiring and buying the book company in 2000. This reading event will offer students, parents, teachers, and members of the community the opportunity to see the latest works by popular authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults. Along with winners of state and national awards, the book fair will present hundreds of titles selected to excite and motivate students to become lifelong readers and to promote family literacy. Special attention is given to find books that will appeal to the emergent, the experienced, and the reluctant reader. Books for all members of the family will be available, from birth through adult.

Ron and Barb are on hand in the evening to meet parents and help them with their selections. This fundraising activity encourages good reading habits, and the school’s proceeds are used to purchase new library materials.
